Ukraine president pressured to resign over murder claims
The President of Ukraine, Leonid Kuchma, is coming under growing pressure to resign over his alleged involvement in the murder of a campaigning journalist, whose headless body was found in a forest.
Thousands of demonstrators from all over the country have converged on the capital, Kiev from where the BBC reports.
Mr Kuchma is fighting for his political life.
He sacked Leonid Derkatch, the head of the National Security Service and one of the men linked by secretly recorded tapes to the murder of a troublesome investigative journalist.
Georgy Gongadze, the editor of an Internet newspaper, disappeared in September.
A headless body identified almost beyond doubt as his was found two months later.
Tapes recorded in Mr Kuchma's office by a presidential body guard appear to show Mr Kuchma urging the security chief and the Interior Minister to arrange Mr Gongadze's kidnapping.
