Appeal

All-Ukrainian Civic Committee for Support "For Truth!"
To Students, Youth and all Orderly Citizens of Ukraine

On March 9, 2001 in Kyiv the All-Ukrainian Civic Committee for
Support "For Truth!" Leadership of the Committee became the
leaders of the student protests of the end of the 1980's and the
beginning of the 1990's: Oles Doniy, Markian Ivashchyshyn,
Viacheslav Kyrylenko, Volodymyr Chemeris, People's Deputies
Taras Stetskiv and Taras Chornovil, leaders of student
organizations. The Committee "For Truth!" came out with the
demands for transparent investigation of the criminals of the
present criminal regimes and the leading of Ukraine to democracy
of the European type. At first the Minister of Internal Affairs, Heads
of Tax Administration, the General Procurator and the President
Leonid Kuchma, must resign, who are all suspected in the
accomplishing such crimes.

Brothers!
The authorities, that to this time has used forceful
methods against participants of activities of protest on the streets,
frightened three hundred young participants in the peaceful
meeting of the Committee "For Truth!" even more so, than the
demonstrations of thousands. It is clear, that the post-communist
Ukrainian authorities remembered October of 1990: hundreds of
student tents on Independence Square, hundreds of thousands
of students on the streets of Kyiv and other cities, the resolution
demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister and new
elections for multiparty posts. On the night of March 9 over 200
students were brutally arrested - participants in the founding
meeting of the Committee "For Truth!", that were leaving to go
home. Ukrainian Security Service members in civilian attire and
"Berkut" (a special division of militia) in helmets grabbed them as
they came out of the metro, at the exit to the train station,
brusquely pulled them out of trains, beat them truncheons, and
dragged them along the ground by the hair. That same evening
militia without a search warrant conducted dozens of illegal
searches; them descended upon the office of the Secretariat of
the Committee "For Truth!" and also illegally searched dozens of
students' residents of Kyiv's universities and colleges.
We are turning to all students of Ukraine with the
proposal of starting student committees "For Truth!" and to
prepare for an all-Ukrainian student strike. The blood of brothers -
students of Kyiv, Lviv, Ternopil, Kharkiv - was spilt on March 9,
calls us to act. For us, as in October of 1990, we are responsible
for the fate of Ukraine. Secondly we do not have the right to fail
truth not *** even of our children!
Friends!
Youth, as students, have always been in favor of change in
Ukraine. The victory of the "velvet revolution" of 1990 was
possible thanks to the common strength of the whole
GENERATION - millions of people from 16 to 25. Europe and
democracy is for us - these are natural values. We will not allow
the criminal authorities to push us into the distance of the far-east
and despotism, as they had done to our parents and grand
parents! Demand along with us changes and the cleaning the
system of authority in Ukraine and join the ranks of members of he
action "For Truth!"
Citizens!
The authorities for years accustomed us to a life of the principle
"better but not worst". As a result of this our life bit by bit
transforms into existence, but over the years only representatives
of the higher authorities and those close to them the
treasury-robber and oligarchs have seen a better life. In Ukraine
the entire system of authority is built on total lies, where orderly
people must become bribers and thieves - or be at peace with the
situation. Independent of this, what we are engaged in - business
or politics, work as civil servants or private firms, are teachers or
are healers (or we are learning or being healed) - they lie to us
force us to lie. Today peaceful student meetings are called
"extreme Sabbaths", tomorrow people will be relieved from work
in order to be tried by a court, and after tomorrow masses will sit in
jail for "political" anecdotes and for demanding their pay. The
repressive machine will quash each individual - if we don't destroy
it together. There are not only hundreds of thousands of us more,
than the authorities. We have weapons that have not existed
within the ranks of the authorities for a long time - TRUTH!
